CYBERSECURITY: AN INCREASINGLY COMPLEX CHALLENGE

The digital transformation of society, accelerated by the pandemic, is a reality. And this transformation involves an exponential increase in the exchange and storage of data, as well as the contracting of all kinds of services over the Internet. In the same proportion, cyber threats and attacks are accelerating, which, day after day, are experienced by individuals and small businesses, but also by large corporations, institutions and public and private organizations.

Attacks are becoming more frequent, sophisticated, and diverse. Cybercriminals act on all kinds of devices and in all areas, and in the face of this threat, which jeopardizes the reputation of many companies and can generate millions of dollars in losses, experts warn that in many cases preparation is not adequate for the level of risk that exists at the moment. There is a lack of preparation among ordinary citizens, who need to be aware of the routes used by cybercrime to perpetrate its crimes - which in many cases are not at all sophisticated - and companies need to equip themselves with all the tools they need to prevent these increasingly frequent attacks. Given the magnitude of the risk, the lack of suitable professional profiles is one of the major problems in dealing with it.

In addition to increasing the culture of prevention among citizens, one of the weapons in the fight against cybercrime, especially in the business world, is to have the right professionals. And in this regard, most experts point out, there is a significant shortage of professionals to meet the current demand. Developers, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence engineers, cybersecurity architects, Big Data analysts... are some of the technical profiles required. But we are not only talking about professionals with a strong technological component. Increasingly, areas such as law (online crime, data protection), health (network addiction and cyberbullying) or even education are also in demand.
